Assistant Controller

We are looking for an Assistant Controller to support accounting operations for an immediate position based in downtown Chattanooga. This role is well suited for a finance specialist who can guide the monthly close process, produce accurate preliminary financial reports, and strengthen the quality of day-to-day accounting activity. The position plays a key role in reviewing financial data, improving account accuracy, and helping maintain reliable reporting in a dynamic accounting environment.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the month-end close process from start to finish, ensuring deadlines are met and financial records are complete.

• Prepare preliminary financial statements and generate reporting packages for internal review.

• Review general ledger activity and perform detailed account reconciliations to confirm accuracy and resolve discrepancies.

• Oversee the integrity of daily accounting transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable activity.

• Conduct audit-focused reviews of financial records and identify areas that require correction, adjustment, or cleanup.

• Support financial statement preparation by organizing data, validating balances, and maintaining proper documentation.

• Monitor accounting processes and recommend practical improvements that enhance reporting accuracy and consistency.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience managing the full month-end close cycle.

• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation practices.

• Hands-on experience preparing financial statements and preliminary financial reports.

• Familiarity with financial statement audits and audit support activities.

• Ability to review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions for completeness and accuracy.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and perform accounting cleanup work.

• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently without direct staff oversight.
