Birth Clerk
Responsibilities:
• Guide parents through the newborn registration process by gathering required information and confirming that all details are complete and accurate.
• Examine medical charts and supporting records to validate demographic data, prenatal history, and other information needed for official birth documentation.
• Prepare and process birth certificate records in accordance with established legal, county, and state standards.
• Support eligible parents with parentage-related forms, explaining requirements clearly and ensuring documents are properly completed.
• Forward completed birth registration materials to the appropriate registrar within required deadlines.
• Perform detailed reviews of names, dates, and identifying information to reduce errors and maintain record accuracy.
• Communicate with empathy and professionalism while assisting families during their postpartum stay.
• Work closely with nurses, physicians, health information personnel, and registrar representatives to resolve questions and complete documentation efficiently.
• Protect confidential patient information and follow all applicable privacy, hospital, and records-handling policies.
• Participate in registrar-required training and learn the designated state birth registration system to carry out documentation tasks effectively.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.• Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish required.
• Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn multiple administrative and documentation systems.
• Strong accuracy in data entry, spelling, form completion, and document review.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a patient-centered approach to service and communication.
• Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks while maintaining quality.
• Previous experience in a hospital, medical office, patient registration, health information, or similar healthcare environment is preferred.
Compensation
