EHS Assistant Manager

OVERVIEW:

The ESH Assistant Manager leads and supports the development, implementation, and continual improvement of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) programs across our four KSB GIW, Inc. locations. This role ensures regulatory and management‑system compliance, advances sustainability initiatives, supports audits and reporting, and leads cross‑functional projects in support of companywide goals to eliminate work‑related injuries through proactive risk elimination, robust systems, and continuous improvement.
The role also fosters a proactive safety culture by engaging employees, tracking leading and lagging indicators, and implementing measurable risk‑reduction initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Environmental, Safety & Health Management Systems

  • Maintain and improve integrated ESH management systems (EMS, EnMS, SMS)
  • Analyze system performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Lead corrective and preventive actions for management-system issues
  • Manage incident investigations and verify effective follow-up
  • Lead and support improvement projects tied to ESH systems
  • Serve as Lead Auditor for EMS/EnMS/SMS and conduct internal audits; support external audits as needed

Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain environmental and compliance databases and respond to customer information requests
  • Support permitting and certification activities
  • Assist with corporate ESH and sustainability reporting and supplier assessments.
  • Conduct compliance audits and spot checks to confirm regulatory and system adherence

Sustainability & Corporate Programs

  • Lead or represent each site on corporate sustainability committees and initiatives
  • Drive data analysis of sustainability and compliance metrics and recommend improvements
  • Identify opportunities to innovate and enhance sustainability performance

Risk Management & Business Continuity

  • Develop and maintain Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery plans
  • Lead preventive assessments and risk‑reduction projects across operations

Training, Documentation & Program Oversight

  • Oversee ESH-related training programs and workforce competency initiatives
  • Manage the Job Safety Analysis (JSA/JHA) program
  • Oversee housekeeping and site condition programs
  • Maintain and manage ESH documents and records in the document control system; support consistent document-control processes across systems

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Working knowledge of ESH management systems (EMS, EnMS, SMS) and applicable standards
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, audits, and reporting
  • Strong analytical and data-management skills and demonstrated ability to lead audits and cross-functional improvement projects

Preferred

  • Professional certifications related to ESH, auditing, or sustainability (e.g., ISO Lead Auditor, CSP)
  • Experience with Title V permitting and regulatory reporting
  • Experience supporting corporate sustainability efforts in manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Project management and facilitation skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently:
    • Prolonged computer use (sitting, typing, screen time) and office‑based work
    • Regular plant‑floor walkthroughs and inspections (walking, standing, climbing stairs/step ladders, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling)
    • Wearing required PPE during site visits (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel‑toe footwear)
    • Reading and preparing technical documents; in‑person and phone communication

  • Occasionally:
    • Lifting and carrying items up to 25–50 lbs (tools, samples, small equipment)
    • Entering confined spaces or working at elevated locations when required (with permits/controls)
    • Travel between sites (day trips and occasional overnight stays)
    • Periodic medical/fit‑for‑duty tasks (e.g., respirator fit testing) and responding to off‑hour incidents or drills
