We are pleased to announce the opening for a Senior HR Generalist who will join our Human Resources team in Huntsville, AL and become part of our rapidly growing technology company operating in missile defense, cybersecurity, test range modernization, biotechnology, and space control marketspaces. In this role, you will support employees and managers across the organization and help ensure consistent, compliant, and employee-focused HR operations.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on HR professional to manage the company's day-to-day human resources operations. This position will serve as a primary HR resource for employees and managers and will be responsible for employee relations, benefits administration, leave management, onboarding and offboarding, HRIS administration, compliance, performance management, and HR reporting. The successful candidate will have previously owned or independently managed most of these HR functions.

Responsibilities

The Senior HR Generalist will manage core day-to-day HR operations and serve as a trusted resource to employees, managers, and company leadership. Duties include:

  • Serving as a primary point of contact for employee and manager HR questions and providing guidance on company policies, workplace practices, performance concerns, and employee relations matters
  • Leveraging AI-enabled tools and modern HR technologies to streamline case management, optimize talent workflows, and scale daily operations
  • Advising managers on employee documentation, coaching, corrective action, performance management, and consistent application of company policies
  • Preparing employee correspondence and processing personnel actions, including promotions, transfers, compensation changes, manager changes, location changes, and employment status changes
  • Administering health and welfare benefit programs, including employee enrollments, qualifying life events, dependent changes, coverage terminations, eligibility questions, claim escalations, and payroll deduction issues
  • Reconciling benefit carrier invoices; researching coverage and premium discrepancies; and coordinating with employees, brokers, carriers, payroll, and third-party administrators
  • Supporting annual benefit renewal planning and leading open enrollment system configuration, testing, communications, employee meetings, and post-enrollment audits
  • Supporting the administration and communication of the company's 401(k), Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and other retirement and employee benefit programs
  • Administering employee leave and accommodation programs, including FMLA, short-term disability, military leave, workers' compensation, company-provided leave, applicable state leave programs, and ADA accommodations
  • Serving as a primary administrator for ADP Workforce Now and related HR systems, including employee data, workflows, notifications, security roles, integrations, audits, troubleshooting, and system improvements
  • Preparing recurring and ad hoc workforce reports and dashboards covering headcount, turnover, hiring, terminations, time to fill, leave, benefits, and workforce demographics
  • Managing employee onboarding, including employment documentation, Form I-9 and E-Verify requirements, orientation, benefit education, policy acknowledgments, and new-hire follow-up
  • Managing employee offboarding, including separation documentation, HRIS processing, benefit termination, final-pay coordination, exit interviews, property-return notifications, unemployment claims, and record retention
  • Coordinating and maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements and coordinating federal-contractor reporting and compliance activities, including EEO-1, VETS-4212, Affirmative Action Program, and Section 503 requirements; identifying exceptions and escalating complex interpretation or legal questions to HR leadership or outside counsel as appropriate
  • Maintaining HR policies, procedures, forms, templates, personnel records, required notices, and employee handbook content, and recommending updates based on legal or operational developments
  • Coordinating performance-review and compensation-planning processes and supporting employee development, engagement, recognition, wellness, and retention initiatives
  • Providing HR governance and review for recruiting and hiring processes including requisition requirements, selection practices, compensation, offers, preemployment requirements, documentation, applicant tracking, dispositions, compliance, and recruiting metrics; and providing functional guidance to the HR and Recruiting Coordinator on these activities

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible, hands-on HR generalist experience
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing several core HR functions, including employee relations, benefits, leave administration, HRIS administration, onboarding, offboarding, and compliance
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and human resources best practices
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive employee matters with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment
  • Strong written communication, documentation, organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to time-sensitive employee and business needs
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
  • Experience administering ADP Workforce Now
  • Experience supporting employees in multiple states
  • Experience in the federal government contracting industry
  • Experience with Affirmative Action Programs, VETS-4212, Section 503, EEO-1, and related federal-contractor requirements
  • Experience administering retirement and employee-ownership programs, including 401(k) and ESOP plans
  • Experience with HR reporting, workforce analytics, HRIS optimization, and process improvement
