Position Description
The Structural Engineer in Training at Cushing Terrell is an on-site role based in our Boise, Idaho office, with reasonable flexibility for occasional project site visits. What does this role involve day to day? This position supports structural design and documentation for a wide variety of building types across our retail, healthcare, commercial, education, government, living, and infrastructure markets. A typical week includes developing structural calculations, modeling and documenting in Revit, coordinating with architecture, MEP, and civil teams, reviewing drawings and details, responding to RFIs and submittals, and participating in QA/QC reviews.
What will I create? You will produce calculation packages, Revit models, and construction documents, contributing directly to buildings across a variety of project types while receiving close mentoring from experienced Professional Engineers.
What does success look like year one? By the end of year one, you will be a dependable Structural Engineer in Training integrated into the Boise team, producing accurate calculations and documentation with growing independence, communicating proactively, and continuing to build toward PE-level responsibility.
Position Salary Range
The expected salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 annually.
Required Qualifications
- Accredited civil or structural engineering degree
- EIT certification, or the ability to obtain EIT quickly
- Willingness and ability to work on-site in Boise, Idaho
- Foundational knowledge of gravity and lateral structural systems, including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills to meet project deadlines
- Clear, proactive communication paired with a coachable, team-oriented working style
- Basic proficiency with Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Revit and BIM coordination workflows
- Familiarity with RAM Structural System, RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, Enercalc, TEDDS, or Bluebeam
- Project experience in retail, healthcare, commercial, education, government, living, or infrastructure markets
- Local Boise or Intermountain West project experience
- Exposure to construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, and site observations
- Interest in growing toward PE licensure

Position Responsibilities
- Design and develop structural calculations for gravity and lateral force-resisting systems across steel, concrete, wood, and masonry construction
- Model and document designs in Revit to support coordinated construction documents
- Coordinate with architecture, MEP, and civil teams to resolve design conflicts
- Review drawings and details for accuracy and constructability
- Respond to RFIs and submittals during construction administration
- Participate in QA/QC reviews to maintain design quality
- Support occasional project site visits as project needs require

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate's years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
