Theradex Oncology is a full-service CRO specializing in oncology. The company manages global oncology trials and programs. The company was founded in 1982 working with the National Cancer Institute, which led to its expansion to working with industry sponsors developing cancer therapeutics. As a service-based company we support both domestic and international sponsors in the conduct of both early and late phase trials.

The Data Engineer will be responsible for management and maintenance of our critical database systems (Oracle + PostgreSQL), while designing and implementing robust data integration solutions that support groundbreaking cancer research.

The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

DBA:

  • Install, configure, and maintain database instances across development, testing, production, on-prem, and AWS cloud environments.
  • Perform database upgrades, patching, migrations.
  • Monitor performance and proactively resolve bottlenecks; implement security measures, develop and implement backup/recovery strategies, and troubleshoot issues for application development teams.
  • Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting languages (SQL, PL/SQL, Shell scripting) and stay current with database technologies and best practices.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of database migrations from on-premises environments to AWS RDS for Oracle.

Data Engineer with ETL:

  • Design, develop, and implement ETL processes to extract data from various sources, transform it according to business requirements, and load it into target systems (e.g., data warehouse, data lake).
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines using ETL tools (e.g., Talend, SQL Scripts, Power Automate, etc.).
  • Optimize ETL processes for performance and scalability.
  • Perform data profiling and data quality analysis to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and data scientists to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Implement data governance and data quality rules within ETL processes.
  • Develop and maintain system architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, integration diagrams, technical design documentation, source-to-target mappings, and data lineage artifacts to support data platforms and integrations.
  • Ensure solutions are developed and maintained in accordance with SDLC, validation, change management, security, data governance, and quality standards, including maintenance of audit-ready documentation and traceability requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reduce technical debt, streamline integrations, and simplify data architecture across enterprise systems.

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • AWS certification preferred

Prior Experience

  • 7-10 years of prior experience as an Oracle DBA or Data Engineer with ETL tools (e.g, Talend, SQL Scripts, Power Automate, etc.)

  • Demonstrates deep understanding of Oracle database architecture, administration, and performance tuning, combined with expertise in ETL methodologies and tools.

  • Proficient in SQL and PL/SQL

  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Shell scripting, Python).

  • Experience with cloud database technologies (AWS RDS preferably)

  • Experience with cloud migration, application modernization, and legacy system decommissioning initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and methodologies.

  • Prior experience in a CRO/pharmaceutical or highly regulated industry environment preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Limited travel. Willingness to come to Princeton office as needed.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $130,000 - $160,000. The actual salary offer will be based on a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and competencies for the role.
