The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant performs selected procedures under the direction of a licensed Occupational therapist who has evaluated the patient and developed a plan of care. Provides services in compliance with regulations governing the practice of occupational therapy and during the course of treatment, takes into consideration the patient’s chronological and developmental agesCertified Occupational Therapist Assistant. - Implements individualized treatment programs based on the occupational therapist's evaluation, plan of care, physician orders, and patient age, developmental level, and functional needs.
- Monitors patient response to treatment, communicates progress to the supervising occupational therapist, and assists with modifications to treatment goals and interventions as appropriate.
- Coordinates patient care through effective written and verbal communication with patients, families, occupational therapists, Clinical Team Leaders, managers, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Documents patient treatment, progress, and related clinical activities in the medical record and completes required documentation in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborates with rehabilitation support staff, students, volunteers, contract staff, and other healthcare professionals to promote efficient clinical operations and quality patient care.
- Orients new employees and provides guidance to students, volunteers, support staff, and contract personnel as assigned.
- Participates in patient care initiatives and departmental activities, including performance improvement, program development and evaluation, continuing education, in-service presentations, committee participation, peer review, staff meetings, and new employee orientation.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and safeguards protected health information in accordance with organizational policies and applicable privacy regulations.
- Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency and supports departmental cost containment initiatives through responsible use of resources.
- Exercises clinical judgment within the scope of certification, departmental policies, established protocols, physician orders, and the supervising occupational therapist's plan of care to provide safe, effective, age-appropriate treatment.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Provides services in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing facilities, home care, and community-based environments, and travels between Carilion facilities or patient homes as required to support operational needs
What We Require:
Education: Associate degree from an AOTA accredited program or equivalent 4 years of experience required.
Experience: None required.
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia. AHA BLS-HCP required within six months of employment.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication, customer service and teamwork skills required.

Compensation Range:
$36.00 - $36.00Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
