The Regulatory Compliance Coordinator will be part of a cohesive team responsible for ensuring compliance with international and regional regulatory and client requirements. The position provides regulatory and technical guidance on product labeling, ingredients, and other regulatory compliance matters to internal stakeholders including Product Development, Marketing, QA, and Sales.

This role provides flexibility to work in a hybrid environment of home and our Westlake Village, CA office. (Hybrid is defined as 3 times per week in the office).

 



Responsibilities

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Understand key regulatory environments, interpret and apply regulations, provide guidance to other departments (including Product Development, Sales, Marketing, and Quality), and undertake proactive steps to ensure compliance of existing and new products.
  • Analyze and interpret compliance trends to determine needs and adjust project requirements, as necessary.
  • Support compliance for a portfolio of products distributed across the U.S., Canada, and international markets.
  • Support management of product specifications, labeling, data sheets, SOPs, and other compliance activities.
  • Support certification programs (e.g., Organic, Non-GMO Project, Kosher, etc.)
  • Update, review, and approve product labels and packaging including Nutrition Facts panels (NLEA), ingredients statements, allergen declarations, and other required statements to ensure accuracy and maintain the safest food and supply chain standards.
  • Provide guidance on product names, standards of identity, and product and marketing claims.
  • Monitor and stay well-informed of compliance and regulation updates, including emerging regulations (e.g. front-of pack, recyclability claims, EPR requirements).
  • Inform and educate teams regarding changing requirements and upcoming regulatory changes and impacts on the business, and support implementation of new requirements.
  • Work with multiple production facilities and QA teams to generate and collect requested quality documents.
  • Complete technical documentation for internal and external teams, customers, suppliers, manufacturing sites and co-packers.
  • Escalate and inform management of non-conforming activity or events.
  • Serve a supporting role for escalation of internal and external compliance-related issues.
  • Actively engage and build relationships with regulatory bodies and industry organizations.


Qualifications



Experience, Knowledge, & Skills You Bring:                 

  • 2-4 years experience in the food, supplement, or cosmetic industry.
  • 1-3 years regulatory experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of FDA regulations and good basic knowledge of USDA regulations pertaining to food labeling, materials, etc.
  • International (CFIA, EFSA, Codex, and APAC) regulatory background experience a major plus.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and translate requirements into practical business guidance.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing regulatory inquiries and documentation requests a plus.
  • Familiarity or good working knowledge of TraceGains, FoodLogiQ, and Repositrak.
  • Familiarity or good working knowledge of GFSI, HACCP and other third-party audits.
  • Experience with NSF (Non-GMO Project Verified, Organic), and Kosher/Halal certification bodies.
  • Expert use of Microsoft applications (Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent organization, time management and verbal/written skills.

Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, Chemistry, Biology or a related Life Sciences is required.
  • PCQI/FSVP/HACCP certifications a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and use the computer for extended periods of time; ability to answer phones and use a variety of office equipment; ability to lift 15 pounds and reach overhead.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 10% travel expected.

FOR JOBS BASED IN CALIFORNIA:

Hiring Pay Scale: $70,000 to $80,000
