Bookkeeper

We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join a growing homebuilding company in Houston, Texas. This contract position with potential for a long-term opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can bring structure to financial records, resolve inconsistencies, and support accurate reporting in a fast-moving business environment. The person in this role will contribute both to immediate accounting cleanup efforts and to the ongoing financial operations of the organization as it continues to expand.

Responsibilities:
• Examine existing financial records, organize incomplete information, and bring account activity into proper order.
• Investigate credit card charges and other transactions to assign accurate accounting classifications.
• Complete reconciliations across bank accounts, credit card activity, and general ledger balances to ensure consistency.
• Evaluate financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements, to confirm accuracy and identify irregularities.
• Review project-related cost reports, compare underlying data, and flag discrepancies that require correction.
• Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end accounting tasks to support timely closing activities.
• Maintain accurate Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable records and help keep daily accounting operations current.
• Support reporting and account analysis by verifying that financial activity is recorded in the correct accounts.
• Recommend practical improvements that strengthen accounting procedures and promote reliable bookkeeping practices.
• Act as a dependable accounting resource for the business by providing ongoing support as operational needs grow.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a closely related finance role.

• Solid knowledge of core accounting principles and standard bookkeeping practices.

• Hands-on experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and preparation of financial reporting support.

• Ability to interpret balance sheets and profit and loss statements with a high degree of accuracy.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify issues, investigate causes, and resolve discrepancies.

• Comfortable working independently and managing priorities with limited day-to-day supervision.

• Clear communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to team members outside of accounting.

• Proficiency with QuickBooks, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and bank reconciliations.

Preferred Qualifications

• QuickBooks experience strongly preferred
• Construction, homebuilding, or job costing experience highly preferred
• Experience supporting small businesses or startup environments
• Ability to identify process improvements and implement best practices

Compensation

$27.00-$31.00 Hourly
