Project Accountant

Compensation: $27 to $30 Hourly

We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant with experience supporting real estate development, construction, capital projects, and property renovations for a 6-month contract. This role serves as a key liaison between construction operations and accounting, ensuring accurate financial tracking, vendor compliance, invoice processing, lien waiver management, and project cost reporting.


The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, subcontractor management, and project documentation, along with the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and track high-volume invoices related to construction, capital improvement, and renovation projects.
  • Review invoice packages for accuracy, approvals, proper coding, and supporting documentation.
  • Manage and track lien waivers, releases, and subcontractor compliance documentation prior to payment processing.
  • Maintain vendor and subcontractor records, including W-9s, certificates of insurance, contracts, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with project budget tracking, job costing, variance analysis, and expenditure reporting.
  • Support month-end close activities related to construction and development projects.
  • Coordinate invoice submissions and payment approvals with Accounting and Project Management teams.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies.
  • Monitor project commitments, change orders, retainage balances, and contract compliance.
  • Maintain accurate project records within Monday.com and other accounting or project management systems.
  • Organize and manage contracts, purchase orders, change orders, permits, and project documentation.
  • Assist with construction draws, project reporting, and financial documentation for leadership.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly project cost reports for construction and executive leadership teams.
  • Partner closely with Project Managers, Development Managers, Contractors, and Accounting teams to ensure accurate project financials.
  • Perform additional accounting and project administration duties as assigned.



Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of project accounting, construction accounting, accounts payable, or real estate development accounting experience.
  • Experience managing lien waivers, subcontractor compliance, and construction vendor documentation.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, purchase orders, contract administration, retainage, and project billing.
  • Experience processing high-volume invoices with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Monday.com, Procore, Sage, Yardi, CMiC, Buildertrend, Viewpoint, or similar construction/project management software preferred.
  • Ability to review and interpret contracts, budgets, construction documentation, and financial reports.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across construction, operations, and accounting teams.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Real estate development, multifamily, commercial, or residential construction experience.
  • Construction draw processing and lender reporting.
  • Knowledge of AIA billing, retainage, change orders, and project cost controls.
  • Experience supporting capital expenditure (CapEx) projects and renovation budgets.
  • Familiarity with subcontractor compliance programs and documentation requirements.

$27.00-$30.00 Hourly
