Compensation: $160 to $180 Yearly

We are seeking an accomplished Tax Director to lead and expand the tax practice of a growing public accounting firm in Spokane Valley (this role is 100% onsite). This leadership role is ideal for a seasoned tax professional with deep technical expertise, exceptional client advisory skills, and a proven ability to develop high-performing teams.


As the leader of the firm's Tax Division, the Tax Director will oversee quality and risk management, drive client service excellence, and mentor a team of tax professionals. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to business owners and high-net-worth individuals while partnering with firm leadership to support growth initiatives, strengthen client relationships, and identify new service opportunities. This position offers an opportunity to influence the direction of the firm's tax practice while playing a key role in its continued success and expansion.


Tax Practice Leadership

  • Lead and oversee all aspects of the firm's tax division, including compliance, consulting, planning, workflow management, and staff development.
  • Establish departmental goals, policies, and best practices to ensure operational efficiency, profitability, and exceptional client service.
  • Monitor emerging tax legislation, regulatory developments, and industry trends to ensure the firm remains proactive and competitive.

Technical Oversight & Quality Control

  • Provide final review and approval of complex tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, estates, and other business entities.
  • Serve as the firm's primary technical resource on sophisticated federal, state, and local tax matters.
  • Lead research and analysis related to complex tax issues, including multi-state taxation, business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, partnership allocations, basis issues, and entity restructuring.

Strategic Tax Planning & Advisory

  • Develop and implement advanced tax planning strategies that align with clients' business and financial objectives.
  • Advise clients on entity selection, succession planning, ownership transitions, business acquisitions, dispositions, and other significant transactions.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and provide forward-looking guidance that creates measurable value for clients.
  • Assist clients in navigating audits, examinations, and correspondence with taxing authorities when necessary.

Team Development & Mentorship

  • Recruit, mentor, train, and develop tax professionals at all levels.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and professional excellence.
  • Provide coaching and performance management to support career growth and succession planning within the department.
  • Review workloads and staffing needs to optimize team performance and client outcomes.

Qualifications:

• Active CPA license is required.

• At least 7 years of progressive public accounting tax experience, including significant responsibility for reviewing complex returns.

• Strong expertise in partnership taxation as well as corporate tax compliance.

• Advanced tax research skills using authoritative guidance, regulations, case law, and specialized research platforms.

• Experience working with layered ownership structures, multiple related entities, and intercompany activity.

• Ability to balance competing priorities and deliver accurate work in a deadline-driven environment.


Compensation

$160,000.00-$180,000.00 Yearly
