Payroll/HR Administrator

Houston, TX 77032, US Temporary
Compensation: $22 to $26 Hourly

Position Summary

Our client located in North Houston is searching for a Payroll/HR Administrator on a contract to hire basis. The Payroll/HR Administrator is responsible for supporting payroll and human resources functions to ensure accurate payroll processing, employee record maintenance, benefits administration, and compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role serves as a key resource for employees regarding payroll, benefits, timekeeping, and HR-related inquiries while assisting with recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Process bi-weekly payroll, special payrolls, and year-end payroll activities accurately and timely.
  • Review and audit payroll data, ensuring all payroll entries are properly authorized and documented.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to resolve missing, inaccurate, or incomplete timecard information.
  • Monitor and maintain timekeeping records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Process salary changes, payroll deductions, direct deposits, wage garnishments, and other payroll adjustments.
  • Validate payroll files and transmit direct deposit information to banking institutions.
  • Reconcile payroll records, W-2s, and quarterly payroll tax reporting.
  • Assist with payroll audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.

Human Resources Administration

  • Support recruitment activities, including scheduling interviews, coordinating candidate communications, and assisting with onboarding.
  • Process background checks and employment verification documentation.
  • Complete and maintain Form I-9 compliance and employee personnel files.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and benefits enrollment for eligible employees.
  • Schedule and monitor performance evaluations through the HRIS system.
  • Maintain confidential employee records and HR documentation.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, leave balances, and HR policies.

Benefits & Employee Support

  • Reconcile monthly insurance premium invoices and allocate costs appropriately.
  • Prepare documentation for benefit-related payments and coordinate with Accounts Payable.
  • Monitor COBRA administration, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), and other employee benefit programs.
  • Track employee paid time off and leave balances to ensure accurate accruals and allocations.
  • Assist with benefit renewals, open enrollment activities, and employee communications.

General Administration

  • Schedule employee meetings, interviews, training sessions, and company events as requested.
  • Support HR compliance initiatives and maintain awareness of current labor law requirements.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to employees and management.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience required.
  • Experience supporting human resources functions, employee onboarding, and benefits administration preferred.
  • Experience with Paychex Payroll and Time & Attendance systems strongly preferred.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and payroll reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of federal and state payroll tax regulations and employment laws.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Experience with HRIS, payroll, and timekeeping systems.
  • Strong data entry and recordkeeping skills with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and sensitive employee data.

Compensation

$22.00-$26.00 Hourly
