A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine to study biofilm formation in nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM). This position is located in the Rangos Research Building, Children’s Hospital Campus. Specifically, the candidate will interrogate the regulatory systems controlling NTM aggregation and dispersal in vitro and in model systems informed by direct imaging of in situ biofilm communities. They will also participate in a collaboration with researchers in the Department of Structural Biology at UPitt in order to elucidate the matrix components involved in NTM biofilm formation. Responsibilities of this position include directing scientific studies and preparing first-drafts of manuscripts, presenting progress and next steps at routine lab meetings (~quarterly group meetings and weekly 1 on 1 meetings with the PI), and advising and supporting trainees within the laboratory. There are no requirements to co-manage or supervise the lab, as these tasks are managed by faculty and technicians within the lab. However, successful candidates will be engaged in informal teaching and training opportunities within the lab and will participate in routine lab maintenance activities. The successful candidate must have an MD and/or Ph.D. in a biomedical field and possess strong communication skills. Background with bacterial genetics is preferred.
