Director of Accounting
Responsibilities:
• Lead month-end close activities by reviewing general ledger results, identifying unusual balances or variances, and ensuring corrections are completed accurately and on time.
• Investigate accounting discrepancies within Oracle and related reporting files, trace transactions to their source entries, and prepare adjusting journal entries when errors are found.
• Oversee batch-based general ledger processing to confirm transactions are grouped, reviewed, and posted correctly in accordance with internal controls.
• Manage complex allocation activity across entities or subsidiaries, ensuring expenses and balances are distributed accurately and supported by clear documentation.
• Partner with finance, claims, enrollment, and executive leadership teams to provide reliable financial information that supports operational and strategic decisions.
• Maintain the integrity of accounting and financial data by evaluating reporting accuracy, addressing inconsistencies, and recommending practical process improvements.
• Support audit preparation and financial reporting deliverables by organizing schedules, validating account activity, and responding to requests from internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide leadership to accounting-related functions by setting expectations, reinforcing accountability, and promoting a fact-based approach to problem-solving and performance management.
• Work through system-related accounting issues within Oracle, including researching posting concerns and coordinating with external support resources when resolution is needed.
Qualifications:
• Strong experience leading accounting operations with direct responsibility for general ledger accuracy, month-end close, and financial reporting.• Hands-on knowledge of Oracle, including the ability to research transactions, review account activity, and resolve posting or journal entry issues.
• Proven background in GAAP accounting and preparation or review of financial statements and audit-related support materials.
• Experience with batch-based accounting processes and a clear understanding of how grouped transactions are reviewed and posted.
• Demonstrated ability to perform and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and correction of complex accounting errors.
• Expertise in allocation accounting, including distributing costs or balances across multiple subsidiaries or business units.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to detect irregularities in large data sets and translate findings into corrective action.
• Effective leadership and cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to guide teams and support data-driven financial decisions.
