Network Engineer

We are looking for a Network Engineer to join a financial institution in Houston, Texas in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This role blends hands-on network support with forward-looking engineering work, requiring someone who can strengthen daily operations while helping shape a more resilient and standardized environment. The position will play a key role in improving connectivity across branch and data center locations, enhancing performance, and contributing to long-term infrastructure design decisions.

Responsibilities:

• Resolve complex routing and connectivity issues affecting branch offices, corporate locations, and data center environments.

• Review and refine route tables, path selection, and next-hop configuration to support stable and efficient traffic flow.

• Administer and enhance network infrastructure built on Fortinet security platforms, Cisco Nexus hardware, and software-defined WAN technologies.

• Partner in the design and execution of network improvement initiatives, including standardization, modernization, and architectural updates.

• Support multi-site resiliency planning by evaluating data center connectivity options and contributing to disaster recovery network design.

• Manage operational network support while also driving project-based engineering efforts in a fast-moving IT environment.

• Create and maintain clear technical documentation, network diagrams, and process standards to improve consistency across the organization.

• Assess existing network architecture and recommend scalable redesign strategies when business or technical needs require broader changes.

Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with Fortinet solutions such as FortiGate and related security or SD-WAN technologies.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise routing concepts, including BGP and route optimization across distributed networks.
• Background supporting Cisco networking environments, including Nexus switches and routers.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot SD-WAN solutions in multi-site environments.
• Experience with network architecture, infrastructure redesign, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Familiarity with disaster recovery networking, data center failover planning, and environments with subnet differences between sites.
• Ability to produce thorough technical documentation and establish repeatable operational processes.
• Comfortable balancing incident response with strategic infrastructure projects in a dynamic organization.

Compensation

$47.50-$55.00 Hourly
