Legal Assistant
We are looking for a Legal Assistant to support a busy litigation practice in Northern California. This role is suited for a legal specialist who can manage discovery, court filings, scheduling, and trial preparation with a high degree of accuracy. The position offers the opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of civil matters, from early case activity through post-trial documentation.
Responsibilities:
• Track billable time accurately and maintain organized matter records using legal billing and case management systems.
• Draft, assemble, and submit case management statements and other court-related filings in accordance with applicable deadlines and procedural rules.
• Prepare a wide range of discovery documents, including admissions, interrogatories, inspection demands, deposition notices, and related service materials.
• Coordinate depositions by confirming schedules, arranging court reporters and interpreters, and notifying clients and other participants as needed.
• Request and obtain third-party records such as medical, employment, and financial documents through properly prepared subpoenas.
• Review incoming discovery materials, depositions, and records to summarize key information, organize case files, and support case strategy.
• Assist with discovery responses by gathering client information, preparing verifications, finalizing response packages, and ensuring timely service.
• Support expert witness processes by helping identify experts, facilitating retention steps, preparing disclosure materials, and coordinating notices or subpoenas.
• Contribute to motion and trial preparation by drafting initial materials, monitoring rulings, organizing binders, coordinating witnesses and vendors, and assisting with post-trial cost documentation.
Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience in a legal assistant, paralegal, or closely related litigation support role; candidates with substantial legal secretary experience are also encouraged to apply.• Certificate or degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or a comparable program from an accredited institution.
• Working knowledge of California civil discovery procedures, filing requirements, and service deadlines.
• Experience supporting civil litigation matters, including discovery coordination, court filings, and calendar management.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Planner.
• Hands-on experience with legal technology such as Clio Manage, Clio Grow, Gavel, Adobe Acrobat, or similar case management and document tools.
• Familiarity with electronic filing in state and federal courts, along with legal billing platforms and automated legal forms software.
Compensation
