Accounting Assistant

We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to support day-to-day financial operations for an import/export organization in Covington, Louisiana. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent position is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed transactional work, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to a dependable accounting process. The role offers the chance to build hands-on experience across reporting, reconciliations, and general accounting support in a collaborative office environment.

Responsibilities:
• Perform a variety of administrative and accounting support tasks to help keep daily office and finance activities organized and on schedule.
• Prepare and record journal entries in the general ledger with close attention to accuracy and proper documentation.
• Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies to help maintain reliable financial records.
• Compile recurring financial reports and distribute them to the appropriate team members each month.
• Assist with accounts payable activities, including reviewing invoice details and coding transactions correctly.
• Complete bank reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items as needed.
• Support additional accounting or clerical assignments based on team priorities and business needs.

Qualifications:

• At least 1 year of accounting experience in a clerical, assistant, or support capacity.
• Working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliation, and basic accounting procedures.
• Experience assisting with accounts payable tasks such as invoice coding and processing.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to generate reports and work accurately with financial data.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage routine responsibilities effectively.

Compensation

$19.00-$21.00 Hourly
