Accounts Payable Specialist

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join a team in Houston, Texas on a Contract to permanent basis. This role is suited for a detail-oriented accounting specialist who can manage invoice processing, payment activity, and account coding with accuracy and consistency. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience across the full accounts payable cycle and contribute to efficient day-to-day financial operations.

Responsibilities:
• Review, code, and enter vendor invoices while ensuring supporting documentation and approvals are complete.
• Manage the full accounts payable process from invoice receipt through payment posting and record maintenance.
• Prepare and process vendor payments, including ACH transactions and other approved disbursement methods.
• Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies to resolve payment or billing issues promptly.
• Maintain accurate account coding in alignment with company policies and financial controls.
• Communicate with internal departments and external vendors to address invoice questions and payment status updates.
• Monitor payment schedules to support timely processing and avoid past-due balances.
• Assist with AP reporting, audit support, and process improvement efforts related to payable operations.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of experience in accounts payable or a closely related accounting support role.

• Practical knowledge of full-cycle accounts payable procedures, including invoice coding and payment processing.

• Experience handling account coding and reviewing invoices for completeness and accuracy.

• Familiarity with ACH payments and standard accounts payable controls.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage a high volume of transactions efficiently.

• Effective communication skills for working with vendors and internal stakeholders.

• Proficiency with accounting systems and standard business software used in payable functions.
