Demolition Technician
Full job description
Company Overview ServiceMaster of Charleston is a full-service company specializing in residential and commercial cleaning, disaster restoration, and construction services. Our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction drives us to deliver exceptional results in every project we undertake. We have been serving the Charleston Area for 38 years.
Summary We are seeking hardworking and dependable Demolition Technicians to join our growing restoration team. Our technicians are on site after a fire or water loss, performing controlled, selective demolition in homes and businesses — this is precision work, not teardown work. You'll remove damaged materials cleanly, preserve materials that can be reused, and prep structures for drying, remediation, and rebuild. If you're physically fit, safety-minded, detail-oriented, and ready to work in a hands-on environment, we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities
- Perform clean, controlled removal of damaged drywall (straight-line flood cuts), ceilings, and other affected materials
- Remove wet or contaminated insulation from attics and crawlspaces
- Carefully detach trim, baseboards, cabinets, and countertops for reuse and reinstallation
- Remove glued-down flooring, carpet, and padding
- Clean and prep subfloors and structural surfaces for smoke odor and mold remediation (HEPA vacuuming, wire brushing, scrubbing, application of treatments as directed)
- Perform basic plumbing disconnects/reconnects (toilets, sinks, appliances) as needed for demolition access
- Set up containment barriers and follow contamination protocols when required
- Load and remove debris, materials, and waste from job sites; tow and operate a dump trailer for debris hauls and disposal runs
- Use hand and power tools such as reciprocating saws, oscillating tools, pry bars, and drills
- Document work with photos and moisture/condition notes per company procedure
- Follow site safety regulations and wear proper PPE, including respirators when required (provided)
- Assist with setup and cleanup of job sites; treat customers' homes and belongings with care and professionalism
- Work collaboratively with the mitigation crew and project manager
Requirements
- Previous restoration, construction, or demolition experience preferred but not required; plumbing experience a strong plus
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to safely tow a loaded dump trailer
- Physically fit and able to lift 50+ lbs, bend, climb, and stand for long periods; comfortable working in attics, crawlspaces, and confined areas
- Comfortable working in dusty, noisy, and physically demanding environments, including fire- and water-damaged structures
- Able to be fit-tested for and work in a respirator
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to job locations across the Charleston area
- Basic understanding of safety practices and ability to follow instructions
- Availability for occasional after-hours or emergency response work (confirm — see note below)
Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay
- Overtime opportunities
- On-the-job training, safety certification, and paid industry certification opportunities (IICRC) (confirm — see note below)
- Health and dental benefits after probation period
- Growth opportunities within the company — many of our project managers started in the field
If you're ready to make an impact on our restoration projects, we invite you to apply today and become an integral part of our team at ServiceMaster of Charleston. Must be able to pass a drug screening and criminal background check.
