Accounts Receivable Specialist

We are looking for an Accounts Receivable Specialist to join an organization in Birmingham, Alabama. This hybrid contract opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-moving setting, building strong relationships with customers, and keeping accounts receivable activity organized and accurate. The role supports both internal teams and external clients while helping ensure cash receipts and account balances are properly managed.

Responsibilities:

• Assist internal departments and external clients with accounts receivable questions, payment issues, and account-related requests.

• Monitor incoming payments and research unapplied cash to ensure funds are posted accurately and resolved in a timely manner.

• Maintain organized receivable records and support daily cash activity with careful attention to detail.

• Use accounting tools, email, and spreadsheets to track account status, document follow-up, and communicate updates clearly.

• Work collaboratively with an accounting team to address outstanding balances and support collection efforts when needed.

• Handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and maintaining service quality.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience in accounts receivable, collections, billing, or another related accounting support function is preferred.

• Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate professionally with both internal and external contacts.

• Basic working knowledge of Excel and Outlook.

• Comfort learning new accounting software; prior experience with specialized systems is helpful but not required.

• Ability to stay organized, manage cash-related details, and follow through on open items accurately.

• Experience working in a high-volume or large-company environment is a plus.
