Staff Accountant

Tampa, FL 33602, US Temporary
Compensation: $26.60 to $30.80 Hourly

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the financial administration of active construction projects in Tampa, Florida. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can balance accounting accuracy with strong coordination across project and finance teams. The role will contribute to billing, cost tracking, reconciliations, and reporting activities that help keep project finances organized, timely, and compliant.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the setup and ongoing maintenance of project records within accounting platforms, including CMiC and related internal systems.
• Contribute to month-end job cost analysis by gathering data, reviewing project financial activity, and helping prepare routine reporting.
• Process vendor invoices, verify coding and documentation, and assist in monitoring payment status for project-related expenses.
• Prepare customer billing packages, review backup documentation for accuracy, and support submission of owner invoices.
• Track outstanding receivables, review aging activity, and follow up on collection-related items with internal stakeholders.
• Maintain subcontractor compliance files by organizing required documents and monitoring lien waiver status.
• Complete account and bank reconciliations, investigate variances, and help resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Prepare journal entries and support the allocation of costs to the appropriate jobs and accounts.
• Respond to accounting inquiries from project staff and management by researching transactions and providing clear updates.
• Partner with project teams to collect information needed for forecasting, billing support, and ongoing financial reporting while following established accounting procedures.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience in staff accounting, project accounting, or construction-related accounting support.
• Working knowledge of job cost tracking, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing processes, and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger support activities.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Excel, including formulas used for analysis and reporting.
• Familiarity with CMiC or comparable accounting software used in project-based environments.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize records accurately and manage multiple deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with accounting teams, project personnel, and management.

Compensation

$26.60-$30.80 Hourly
