Payroll Administrator

We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Administrator to join an organization in Chesapeake, Virginia. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-volume, multi-state payroll environment and enjoys working closely with payroll leadership and cross-functional teams. The role supports payroll operations for a large national workforce and requires strong accuracy, organization, and reporting skills. You will play an important part in maintaining compliant payroll processing and delivering timely payroll data and analysis.

Responsibilities:

• Process payroll for a large employee population across multiple states while maintaining accuracy and meeting established deadlines.

• Partner with the Payroll Manager and payroll team to support day-to-day payroll operations for a national retail organization.

• Review and enter payroll-related data, ensuring employee records and pay details are updated correctly in the HRIS and payroll systems.

• Assist with payroll tax activities by helping track, validate, and support compliance requirements across nearly all U.S. states.

• Generate, organize, and analyze payroll reports in Excel to support audits, reconciliation, and management review.

• Work with internal stakeholders to coordinate payroll updates, resolve discrepancies, and improve the flow of payroll information.

• Support in-house payroll processing activities and help ensure consistent execution of established payroll procedures.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of payroll experience, preferably in a high-volume environment.
• Hands-on experience processing multi-state payroll with strong understanding of payroll tax considerations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create and manage payroll-related reports.
• Experience working with HRIS platforms and in-house payroll processing systems.
• Ability to manage sensitive employee information with a high level of confidentiality and accuracy.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced payroll setting.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with payroll team members and management.

Compensation

$21.85-$25.30 Hourly
