Collections Specialist

We are looking for a Collections Specialist to join a team in Columbus, Ohio in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position focuses on commercial collections and accounts receivable activities, with an emphasis on maintaining strong customer relationships while improving payment performance. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing communications, applying incoming payments, and partnering with internal teams to support timely account resolution.

Responsibilities:
• Manage business-to-business collection efforts by contacting customers regarding outstanding balances and following through on payment commitments.
• Post incoming cash receipts accurately and apply payments to the appropriate customer accounts.
• Respond to customer inquiries related to account status, invoices, and payment activity in a thorough and timely manner.
• Partner with the sales team to address account issues, resolve disputes, and support collection strategies.
• Oversee the accounts receivable inbox and prioritize requests, remittance details, and customer correspondence.
• Prepare and submit recommended write-off documentation for review and approval.
• Coordinate placement of delinquent accounts with external collection agencies when internal efforts have been exhausted.
• Track customer credit holds and help ensure appropriate action is taken based on account standing.

Qualifications:

• Experience handling commercial or business-to-business collections in a detail-oriented finance or accounting environment.
• Working knowledge of accounts receivable processes, billing follow-up, and collection workflows.
• Ability to apply cash payments accurately and reconcile customer accounts as needed.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and collaborating across internal teams.
• Familiarity with credit review principles and account risk evaluation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort working in accounting or ERP systems such as NetSuite.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities effectively.

Compensation

$26.00-$29.00 Hourly
