Cash Application Specialist
We are looking for a detail-oriented Cash Application Specialist to support healthcare payment operations in Downers Grove, Illinois. This Long-term Contract opportunity focuses on applying and reconciling incoming funds with precision, helping maintain accurate financial records across patient and payer accounts. The ideal candidate brings strong accounts receivable experience, sound judgment when researching payment issues, and a clear understanding of confidentiality and compliance standards in a healthcare setting.
Responsibilities:
• Record and allocate daily receipts from patients, insurers, and other payers to the correct accounts with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
• Compare posted cash activity, deposit information, and banking records to confirm balances and investigate any differences.
• Review underpayments, posting errors, and incorrectly applied funds, then take appropriate steps to resolve outstanding issues.
• Prepare refunds and account adjustments in accordance with payer rules, internal controls, and patient-related requests.
• Investigate unapplied or unidentified remittances and complete follow-up needed to clear open items promptly.
• Use billing platforms, electronic remittance advice tools, and payer websites to obtain payment details and support accurate cash posting.
• Maintain complete adjustment and transaction documentation while following healthcare privacy expectations and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with team members across revenue cycle functions to support efficient accounts receivable processes and overall financial accuracy.
The salary range for this position is $25 to $32/hour, plus bonus. Benefits are available including medical, vision, and dental, and life and disability insurance. Qualifications:
• At least 2 years of experience in cash application, cash posting, accounts receivable, or a closely related finance role.• Background working with payment posting processes in a healthcare environment.
• Ability to reconcile deposits, receipts, and account activity while identifying discrepancies quickly and accurately.
• Proficiency with billing systems, electronic remittance tools, and online payer portals.
• Solid understanding of patient confidentiality standards and applicable state and federal compliance expectations.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work well in a team-based environment.
