Front Desk Coordinator

We are looking for a Front Desk Coordinator to serve as the first point of contact for visitors at a community center in San Francisco, California. This Contract position is ideal for someone who brings professionalism, compassion, and sound judgment to a fast-paced nonprofit setting. In this role, you will help create a respectful and supportive environment while guiding visitors and other guests to the services and resources that best meet their needs.

Responsibilities:

• Welcome visitors, guests, and community partners upon arrival and provide helpful, courteous assistance at the front desk.

• Respond to visitor questions and direct individuals to appropriate programs, including meals, case management, counseling, legal support, and community services.

• Maintain an organized reception area that promotes safety, professionalism, and a positive experience for everyone entering the center.

• Use calm, trauma-informed communication when assisting individuals who may be under stress or facing mental health or housing-related challenges.

• Coordinate with staff members and onsite service providers to ensure visitors are connected with timely and appropriate support.

• Observe activity in the front lobby and address concerns promptly to help preserve a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.

• Provide general front desk support, including managing visitor flow and relaying important information to internal teams as needed.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in front desk operations, reception, customer service, or community-based support work.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate respectfully with people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

• Demonstrated empathy, patience, and professionalism when working with vulnerable or trauma-affected populations.

• Ability to stay composed and make sound decisions in emotionally charged or high-pressure situations.

• Experience supporting veterans, unhoused individuals, or behavioral health populations is highly preferred.

• Effective conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.

• Commitment to maintaining a welcoming, inclusive, and service-oriented environment.
