Credit Manager

Charlottesville, VA 22902, US Full Time
Compensation: $75 to $85 Yearly

We are looking for an experienced Credit Manager to oversee credit risk, strengthen receivables performance, and support sound financial decision-making for our operations in Charlottesville, Virginia. This role is ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can balance analytical judgment with practical business partnership, ensuring customer accounts are managed with discipline while supporting growth. The successful candidate will guide credit and collections practices, address delinquency risk, and work closely with internal teams to improve accuracy, cash flow, and overall portfolio health.

Responsibilities:
• Review new and existing customer accounts to determine credit suitability using financial statements, payment records, external reporting tools, and trade information.
• Set and maintain credit thresholds and payment conditions that align with customer risk, account type, and applicable agreements.
• Track exposure across the customer portfolio and revise terms or limits when changes in financial performance or market conditions increase risk.
• Factor industry conditions such as seasonal demand shifts, commodity price movement, and channel pressure into credit recommendations and account decisions.
• Develop and refine collection workflows, including communication cadence, account restrictions, suspension steps, and other recovery measures.
• Analyze aging reports, delinquency trends, and loss indicators to identify issues early and recommend improvements that strengthen receivables results.
• Perform regular account reviews and reconciliations, resolve discrepancies, and interpret account activity to recommend appropriate corrective action.
• Take ownership of complex or escalated collections matters, including negotiating repayment arrangements that protect the company’s financial position.
• Partner with billing, cash application, and related teams to resolve disputes, short payments, and posting issues in a timely manner.
• Manage legal recovery efforts for seriously past-due accounts by preparing claims, coordinating with counsel, and supporting actions such as judgments, liens, or garnishments when needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of progressive experience in credit, collections, accounts receivable, or financial risk management.
• Experience overseeing commercial or wholesale credit programs, ideally within fuel distribution, energy, logistics, or another high-volume transactional environment.
• Demonstrated experience pursuing delinquent accounts through formal legal recovery processes and working with legal counsel on related actions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain account and financial matters clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, for analysis and reporting.
• Industry credentials in credit or risk management are preferred, such as Certified Credit Executive or Certified Credit & Risk Analyst.
• All candidates are required to complete pre-employment testing and verification procedures.
