Purpose:

The Systems Engineer supports the server, virtualization, and operating system environments that host and enable Call Handling Equipment (CHE) platforms within the NG911 ecosystem. This role ensures systems supporting call processing, call control, and associated services are stable, secure, and highly available. The position plays a key role in sustaining operational integrity for systems directly supporting PSAP emergency call handling.

Responsibilities:

  • Support CHE application installations, upgrades, and maintenance activities in coordination with NG911 engineers, network teams, and vendors.
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues impacting call handling services and participate in incident response and root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to system design improvements, documentation, and standard operating procedures. Participate in change management, testing, and cutover activities to ensure system changes are introduced safely into live call handling environments.
  • Tier 4 support for Integrated NextGen Core Services (I-NGCS), Motorola Call Works CHE, Datamark LDB/ECRF/LVF, and other systems as developed and implemented.
  • Software/Application, customer, and vendor support for deployment, additions, changes, upgrades for Massachusetts I-NGCS, CHE, Mapping, Video, RIP, and EIDX systems.
  • New Massachusetts I-NGCS special projects implementation.
  • Participation in I-NGCS engineering reviews and IBOP peer reviews.
  • Stoughton PIE lab supports and acceptance testing to for Stoughton PIE and Massachusetts Production environments; work with cross-functional teams to plan, design, test, and implement system upgrades and new products.
  • Document system configurations and operational procedures, including any required ISO-9000, TL-9000, and ISO-27001 compliance and documentation activities.
  • Provide technical expertise for future Comtech services in the telecommunications sector and stay apprised of technological trends in telecommunications and NG911 systems.
  • Work independently on projects assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise servers and virtualization platforms.
  • Experience with storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Understanding of system hardening and security best practices.
  • 2-3+ years of systems engineering, infrastructure, or telecommunications experience.
  • Experience supporting high-availability or mission-critical systems.
  • NG911, call handling, or public safety systems experience preferred.
  • Experience developing technical diagrams with Visio and/or Miro.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.

Education:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent related experience in Information Technology, Engineering, Telephony, or related field
  • Relevant technical certifications preferred

The pay range reflects the expected base salary for this position. Final compensation will be based on role, level, skills, experience, and geographic location.
