Utility All Around/Machine Operator
Position Description:
Assist production management and supervision in the organizing, monitoring and processing of orders in order to facilitate the most efficient and productive means by which to process orders through the entire plant, which includes three (3) of the core processes of the Precision Thin Metals classification: Milling, Slitting, Annealing, Coating, and Lapping. Assist production management and supervision in the coordination of support activities within the plant that include Quality/Inspection, Packaging, Material Handling (include Degreasing) and Rewinding. Provide a vigilant oversight on employee safety and product quality. Assist production management and supervision in all aspects of inventory control and management (Cycle Counting and Physical Inventories). Assist the technical management side in all aspects of evaluating material processing as it pertains to the three (3) core processes of the Precision Thin Metals classifications (as referenced above). Primary resource for consultations and training on milling of material, set up of milling equipment and material compatibility to the re-rolling process.
Set up and operate milling equipment for varying materials, of various widths and thicknesses to widths as specified by milling order, routing or other instructions. Move and position coils, check width, weigh or calculate weights of coils; record withdrawals on inventory records. Make adjustments to milling equipment as necessary to maintain quality, report unusual difficulties to supervisor. Maintain identity of materials handled; maintain production records; perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Set up of annealing equipment (strip and batch equipment as it pertains to the Sergeant Wilbur, Beavermatics, ABAR Furnace and all Batch Furnaces) and the coating and etching equipment for the processing of Silicon steel coating, annealing line and slitting. Set up operate all associated auxiliary equipment with each of the processes identified above (rewind equipment, welders, lappers, etc.). Block and rotary lap rolls as necessary. Load and unload material as required, onto mill drums for the purpose of milling, degreasing, annealing or coating/etching of material. Prepare material for annealing, load and uploading. Use a variety of shop hand and power tools. Lubricate equipment and perform preventative maintenance as required. Assist others in set-up and operation of equipment as required. Notify production management and or supervisor if operating difficulties arise. Set up manual and automated lapping machines and select rotary lappers needed to condition mill roll. Place roll into lapper, start machine and move pressure paddle back and forth to remove defects, such as gauges, pin pricks, holes and unparalleled. Use instruments to measure and assure that necessary roll dimensional and surface finish requirements are met and deburr strip when required.
Must have a strong commitment to workplace safety, including the proper use of PPE, adherence to lockout/tagout procedures, and immediate reporting of hazards or near-misses. Work collaboratively to keep the production floor safe for themselves and everyone.
Maintain work and inventory records. Follow all plant rules and regulations and safety procedures. Keep work area neat and clean. Perform other miscellaneous duties as required.
