STEM Communications Specialist - ONR

Location: Herndon, VA / Remote

Position Overview

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is seeking a highly motivated STEM Communications Specialist to support Naval STEM Outreach efforts. The specialist will serve as the primary point-of-contact to communicate Department of the Navy (DON) STEM opportunities—including programs like SEAP, NREIP, and others—to students and their families, promoting the STEM future force relevant to the future U.S. STEM workforce.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point-of-contact to communicate DON STEM opportunities and other relevant programs to students and families.
  • Plan and coordinate STEM outreach events in collaboration with naval sites across the Department of the Navy
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to maximize outreach impact.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, specifically Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to obtain or currently hold a SECRET security clearance prior to award.
  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, communications, or journalism with at least five years of experience in science writing, editing, or a related field; OR
    • Master’s degree in a STEM field, communications, or journalism with at least two years of experience in science writing, editing, or a related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Government, Department of Defense (DoD), or Department of the Navy (DON) internship programs.
