Payroll Specialist
Responsibilities:
• Maintain and update employee records to ensure personnel, pay, benefits, and leave information remains accurate and current.
• Process payroll from start to finish by reviewing submitted data, calculating earnings and deductions, and entering information into the payroll system.
• Prepare and submit required payroll and employment-related reporting in alignment with federal and state guidelines through established internal processes.
• Coordinate employment status changes and workforce updates with the South Carolina Public Charter School District Human Resources team.
• Produce, organize, and distribute payroll and HR-related reports while supporting ongoing record maintenance and data tracking.
• Perform audits and run system queries to validate payroll data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.
• Assist in creating and refining user instructions and procedural documentation to support payroll and HR operations.
• Communicate with employees regarding leave requests, modified work arrangements, documentation needs, and return-to-work expectations.
• Manage leave administration and other assigned time-off programs in accordance with company policy and applicable employment laws.
• Safeguard confidential employee and medical information by following proper privacy and record-handling practices.
Qualifications:
• At least 1 year of payroll experience, including full-cycle payroll processing.• Experience handling payroll for a workforce of more than 500 employees.
• Working knowledge of multi-state payroll practices and related compliance considerations.
• Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now and strong payroll system navigation skills.
• Ability to review data carefully, perform audits, and maintain a high level of accuracy in payroll records.
• Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to support employees and internal stakeholders effectively.
• Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are preferred.
• Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
