Tax Preparer
The Tax Preparer is responsible for preparing accurate and timely federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and business entities while ensuring compliance with current tax laws and regulations. This role partners closely with Tax Managers, CPAs, and clients to gather financial information, prepare tax workpapers, and meet critical filing deadlines during the busy tax season. The ideal candidate is experienced with complex individual tax returns, proficient in ProSystem fx Tax, and able to manage a high-volume workload with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Prepare complex individual (Form 1040) tax returns, including returns with K-1 income, Schedule C businesses, Schedule E rental properties, investment activity, and other supporting schedules.
- Prepare tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, corporations, trusts, and nonprofit organizations as needed.
- Review client financial documents to ensure tax returns are complete, accurate, and compliant with federal and state tax regulations.
- Utilize ProSystem fx Tax to efficiently prepare, review, and process tax returns while maintaining high production and quality standards.
- Research tax issues and assist in resolving client questions related to tax filings, deductions, credits, and compliance requirements.
- Communicate with clients regarding missing documentation, filing requirements, and tax return status to ensure deadlines are met.
- Support Tax Managers and Partners during peak filing seasons while maintaining accurate workpapers and documentation for review.
Qualifications:
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of public accounting or tax preparation experience with an emphasis on individual income tax returns.
- Strong experience preparing complex Form 1040 returns, including K-1s, Schedule C, Schedule E, investment income, and other supporting schedules.
- Proficiency with ProSystem fx Tax is required.
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload and consistently meet tax season deadlines, including extended hours during peak filing periods.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state income tax laws and tax compliance requirements.
- CPA license is not required, though candidates with public accounting experience are highly preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while delivering high-quality client service.
