Payroll Manager

Compensation: $39 to $44 Hourly

Our client, a growing and dynamic organization in the Gallatin, TN area, is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager/Payroll Supervisor to provide leadership and oversight of payroll operations. This hybrid opportunity offers the flexibility of working remotely while being onsite approximately one day per week. The position is structured as a contract-to-hire engagement and is ideal for a payroll professional who enjoys improving processes, leading teams, and supporting a multi-location workforce. Moderate overnight travel is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day payroll function, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing for approximately 400 employees, with anticipated workforce growth.
  • Supervise and support a team of payroll professionals, providing coaching, guidance, and performance oversight.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including payroll tax reporting and filings.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll system issues, data discrepancies, and export-related errors to ensure smooth processing cycles.
  • Administer payroll activities utilizing systems such as Viewpoint, QuickBooks, or similar payroll platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes, strengthen controls, and improve overall operational efficiency.
  • Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to support payroll initiatives and system enhancements.
  • Travel periodically to company locations to review payroll processes, support local operations, and ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Develop and implement best practices that promote accuracy, compliance, and scalability as the organization continues to grow.



Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle payroll operations, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax withholding requirements, and compliance standards.
  • Experience working with payroll software platforms; exposure to Viewpoint and QuickBooks is preferred but not required.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and mentor payroll team members.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex payroll and system-related issues.
  • Experience processing payroll for mid-sized employee populations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability and willingness to travel on an occasional basis, including overnight trips as needed.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees and management across multiple locations.

Compensation

$39.00-$44.00 Hourly
