The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering (engineering.pitt.edu/bioengineering) invites applications from accomplished individuals with a PhD or equivalent degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, health informatics, or closely related disciplines for an appointment stream Research Assistant Professor position.

Applicants should have demonstrated expertise in the design, development, and evaluation of digital health technologies to support the Department’s growing portfolio of research in clinical translation, biomedical sensing, and data-driven health technologies. This includes mobile health (mHealth) systems, clinician- and patient-facing software applications, wearable-integrated sensing platforms, and research data infrastructure. The successful candidate is expected to have more than two years of research experience, including experience leading the development, deployment, and maintenance of research software systems that support interdisciplinary studies.

The position will focus on advancing research in digital health systems and translational biomedical technologies. Areas of interest include the integration of wearable and mobile technologies into clinical research workflows, human-centered design of healthcare software, and the collection, management, and analysis of health data from sensor-based and self-reported sources.

In addition to research activities, the successful candidate will contribute their service to the department through leadership and technical oversight within the IDEA Lab. This role will focus on supporting interdisciplinary design, software development, and student project initiatives aligned with the department’s innovation and experiential learning goals.

Service contributions in this role support the broader research, educational, and innovation missions of the department and the Swanson School of Engineering.
