JOB SUMMARY
Employment for this position is contingent upon contract award. Overall, this position supports a geographically distributed Functional Check Flight operation. Personnel maintain required flight qualifications and administrative readiness through their assigned home station while routinely traveling to government maintenance facilities to execute mission requirements. Flexibility and responsiveness to changing maintenance priorities are essential to mission success. This position primarily supports the depot FCF operations at FRC East in Cherry Point, NC for phase maintenance drop-offs, pickups, and acceptance. The secondary responsibility is to support HH-60W FCF operations at Patrick SFB.
- The HH-60W FCF Flight Engineer supports/performs Functional Check Flights (FCFs), Operational Check Flights (OCFs), maintenance flight tests, Acceptance Test Profiles (ATPs), and aircraft recoveries or deliveries IAW T.O. 1H-60(H)G-6CF-1 and T.O. IH-60(H)G-6CL-1, as appropriate. Along with the above duties, the Flight Engineer /SMA is responsible for contributing all FCF reports, paperwork and overall safety and management of the local ground and flight operations as required by the HH-60W FCF site lead.
- Personnel may be assigned to one installation while routinely performing temporary duty travel in support of Functional Check Flight operations at government maintenance depots, operational units, or other designated locations. Employees must be capable of responding to short-notice travel requirements and maintaining required flight qualifications at their assigned home station.
- FCF flights are required after certain repairs have been completed to ensure the aircraft is airworthy and mission capable. FCFs are very time consuming and detailed.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- System checkout during ground and flight operations and post-maintenance Functional Check Flight (FCF) as required.
- Perform other ground runs and maintenance flights as directed by the RQS/CC and support post-modification flight test activities as directed by the SPO, ACC, or MAJCOM.
- May be requested to accompany USAF personnel on deployments to perform FCFs and related tasks.
- May be tasked to perform instructional duties to support USAF personnel with basic aircraft currency (i.e. takeoff/landing, instruments and emergency procedure training) or basic FCF qualification training.
- Support depot production schedules by providing timely FCF support following programmed maintenance and modification activities.
- Coordinate directly with Government maintenance personnel, quality assurance representatives, and engineering personnel regarding aircraft status and flight readiness.
- Maintain readiness for short-notice travel in support of depot maintenance operations.
- Perform specific maneuvers during daylight visual conditions with a minimum of a three-man crew (two (2) pilots and one (1) engineer) that will permit the evaluation of all aircraft systems.
- Night flights may be conducted under nighttime visual flight rules and visual meteorological conditions to evaluate cockpit night vision imaging systems lighting.
- Ferry flights may be conducted under day or night Instrument Flight Rules are authorized.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- At least 1000 hours of total military flight time, (REQUIRED).
- FAA Class II medical flight clearance, (REQUIRED).
- Previously qualified USAF HH-60W 1A1X1/1A9X1 (Flight Engineer/Special Mission Aviation) successful completion of a formal USAF aircrew qualification-training course and as required by AFI 10-220, is (Highly Preferred).
- High level of HH-60W systems knowledge and expertise, including detailed knowledge of the FCF process and AFTO 1H-60(H)W-6CF-1 and TO 1H-60(H)W-6CL-1, (Preferred).
- Previous HH-60W FCF experience. (Preferred)
- Personnel previously USAF instructor qualified shall maintain instructor status IAW AFI 10-220.
SECURITY CLEARANCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a minimum of an active U.S. SECRET clearance and be subject to a government security investigation.
- Must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information and COMSEC material.
- Driving or renting a car for company business is expected with some frequency. For insurance purposes, a valid driver’s license is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- FAA Class II medical flight clearance.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
TRAVEL REQUIRED
- Position will travel up to 50% of the time out of state and overnight to fulfill contract requirements.
