Assistant Controller

Salary: $110,000 - $140,000


Our client is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its growing finance team. This is a hybrid opportunity located north of St. Paul, requiring only 1 day/week in office. This position plays a key leadership role in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys improving processes, partnering with operational leaders, and helping develop a high-performing accounting team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses for leadership.
  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation and coordinate requests from external auditors.
  • Oversee general ledger activities and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Perform account reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Help maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes.
  • Assist with regulatory and external financial reporting requirements.
  • Research and apply new accounting guidance as needed.
  • Mentor and support members of the accounting team while promoting continuous process improvement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to provide financial insights that support business decisions.
  • Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial statement preparation, and variance analysis.
  • Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a multi-entity or complex organizational environment.
  • Prior experience improving accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Experience mentoring or providing guidance to other accounting professionals.
