As Maintenance Engineering Technician Lead you will provide leadership and advanced maintenance support on night shift to ensure value stream production equipment meets line/area production requirements. Lead troubleshooting and repairs and prioritize and coordinate planned and unplanned maintenance activities for the night shift, allocating work across Maintenance Engineering Technicians and other support staff. Act as the senior SAP user for night-shift maintenance by searching for parts, creating and maintaining stock items, and amending/creating PMs as required. Take responsibility for writing and issuing purchase orders (POs) to ensure timely availability of parts and services. Lead and participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) for equipment problems. Participate in daily value stream area performance management line walk-throughs with the area management team as directed by the maintenance supervisor, providing night-shift insights and escalations. Coordinate shift preventative maintenance orders with the area maintenance planner, ensuring clear communication of required activities at daily performance management meetings. Support continuous improvement by analyzing failure rates and downtime during weekly maintenance review meetings with the maintenance supervisor. Act as a senior technical resource and support the maintenance supervisor in the capability development of all ETs supporting the value stream.

  • Lead the night-shift response to production equipment failures by directing efficient troubleshooting, assigning work to ETs, and ensuring timely initiation and completion of repairs to meet production requirements.
  • Promote consistent safety behaviors by starting all shift handovers with EHS updates/concerns and reinforcing adherence to site safety expectations on night shift.
  • Support and, when required, act on behalf of the maintenance coordinator by prioritizing and coordinating maintenance activities, ensuring alignment with production and maintenance priorities.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance planner to ensure area PMs are executed on time, with strong focus on achieving zero Y3s and minimizing impact to production.
  • Maintain and enforce a high level of 5S standards and work practices across all production and shop areas during the night shift.
  • Utilize SAP as the primary maintenance system on night shift, including searching for parts, creating and maintaining stock items, raising and managing maintenance notifications/orders, and amending/creating PMs as required to support equipment reliability.
  • Lead and participate in RCAs and CAPA implementation for equipment problems, ensuring actions are defined, documented in appropriate systems, executed on night shift, and sustained.
  • Ensure all night-shift activities are performed in accordance with Zebulon Safety Procedures, cGMPs, and applicable regulatory expectations, and are audit-ready at all times.
  • Support zero accidents, zero defects, and zero waste by partnering with the maintenance supervisor on key equipment process evaluations, improvement initiatives, and night-shift execution of action plans.
  • Coordinate and provide night-shift support to equipment engineering staff in the execution of equipment installation, commissioning, FATs, and validation (IQ/OQ) activities, ensuring maintenance readiness and sustainment of new assets.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 6 years of industrial maintenance or automation experience.

  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic or mechanical systems.

  • Experience troubleshooting industrial automation, instrumentation and controls.

  • Experience working under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or similar regulated environment.

  • Experience using an enterprise maintenance system such as SAP for work orders and history.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Associate degree in a technical, maintenance or engineering field, or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to read mechanical assembly drawings, P&ID and electrical wiring diagrams.

  • Proficiency in SAP maintenance modules (work orders, maintenance plans, history).

  • Experience with equipment commissioning, FATs and IQ/OQ validation testing.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document work clearly.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with production and engineering teams.

GSK’s Zebulon site is a global supplier of Respiratory and Solid Dose medicines to patients around the globe and the largest GSK Pharmaceutical secondary manufacturing site in North America.  The site is located less than 30 minutes from downtown Raleigh, Wendell, Knightdale, Rocky Mount, Wilson, and Wake Forest.
