Description

The Titans After School Program Substitute Instructor works with a group of up to twenty-five (25) students. Daily tasks consist of but are not limited to: student supervision, tutoring/homework assistance, and educational enrichment. The Titans After School Program Substitute Instructor must be committed to being a constant presence during all hours of operation. The Titans After School Program Substitute Instructor must have high energy, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to maintain a fun and organized atmosphere.

The Titans After School Program Substitute Instructor will be assigned to any of the following schools within the Buena Park School District: Corey Elementary, Gilbert Elementary, Pendleton Elementary, Whitaker Elementary, Beatty Middle School, and Buena Park Middle School

Elementary:Monday through Friday 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Thursdays (Early Release Day) 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Note: District Minimum Days are scheduled throughout the year on Tuesdays: 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)

Middle School:Monday through Friday 2:45 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and Thursdays (Early Release Day) 1:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (Note: District Minimum Days are scheduled throughout the year on Tuesdays: 1:15pm - 6:30 pm)

*Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.

Essential Duties

  • Collect all attendance documents and any other documents needed at the end of programming daily
  • Provide students with educational enrichment, including positive youth development strategies, recreation, prevention activities, and the ability to teach youth positive life skills.
  • Provide tutoring and homework assistance
  • Ensures the students receive constant supervision and provides a safe and supported environment at all times.
  • Implement all Titans After School Program curriculum: Buena Park: Let’s Learn!, Meet the Masters, Math Readers, Battle of the Books, STEM, Comic Books. Must also implement any new curriculum that may be introduced during the school year (Training will be provided).
  • Create and implement an engaging educational curriculum every month upon approval of their direct supervisor.
  • Responsible for any Titans After School Program property such as curriculum materials and electronics that have been given to them or checked out for use.
  • Accurately track students’ progress using the programmatic protocol.
  • May be asked to stay past the scheduled time when students are picked up past normal check-out time.
  • Responsible for managing service learners, interns, and volunteers at the site.
  • Responsible for checking their assigned Fullerton email on a weekly basis to ensure all trainings are up-to-date and completed by their deadline. If not, this will result in the employee’s work status being deactivated until all training modules are completed and cleared through HR.
  • Implement all Titans After School Program rules and procedures and display professionalism at all times.
  • Responsible for supporting their supervisor by following their directions.
  • Communicates regularly with the Site Coordinator regarding all aspects of the program at the designated site.
  • Must follow all Chain of Command when it comes to reporting any incidents or concerns at site.
  • Responsible for clocking in/out on the site’s desktop computer only and must complete an electronic timesheet and approve own hours on TimeClock as scheduled bi-weekly.
  • Must attend all weekly staff meetings
  • Work collaboratively with all staff members
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills.
  • Ability to manage one class with 20-25 students
  • Understanding of behavior management and effective disciplinary techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with exceptional interpersonal and partnering relationship skills.
  • Ability to keep track of all curriculum and binders at the site.
  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel) and Google Drive
  • Must be flexible, team-oriented, child-focused, and want to make a difference in the lives of children.

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-20 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
