Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Mail Clerk provides essential support in the accurate and timely processing of all incoming and outgoing mail and parcels. This role involves performing manual handling tasks and operating specialized mail-processing machinery, ensuring all operations align with college standards and external delivery regulations.
The position is scheduled for 15 hours per week, with a standard coverage window of 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. While these hours remain the primary schedule, flexibility is required during peak seasons or vacation periods, when the employee may be asked to work extended hours or occasional weekend shifts to meet departmental needs. Some of the functions of the position are as follows:

Some of the functions of the position are as follows:
- Coordinate, receive, sort, and distribute all USPS incoming mail, inter-college mail, and packages via other carriers, for delivery to students, faculty and college staff according to USPS/other carriers/and college regulations, policies, and deadlines.
- Deliver department mail and packages requiring a signature at the Campus Mail Service Window. Provide courteous and timely service to the college community and guests.
- Process and maintain accurate logs of all outgoing FedEx, UPS, other courier shipments and delivery confirmation mail pieces.
- Train, assist, delegate, and monitor the workload of student employees who assist in all aspects of mail service operations.
- Process all outgoing USPS mail to be dispatched to USPS at designated times.
- Forward and return incorrect mail according to USPS regulations, and adhere strictly to all USPS and Wheaton College policy for handling mail.
- Provide college policy and information, standards, and regulations for USPS, Amazon, FedEx, and UPS in regard to mail/shipment related activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience with the USPS is preferred, or an Associate’s degree
