Position Description
Job Purpose


This position will work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to lead/support development, design, and execution of timely and high-quality completion of automation systems in the Water and Wastewater industry. The primary focus of this role will be to understand project plans and specifications to provide system design and submittals. The role will include selecting process instrumentation, designing control panels layout, creating wiring diagrams, power distribution and I/O schematics, developing bill of materials, project documentation, and creating details design for switchboards, motor control centers, panelboard, PLC control panels, Network & Communication panels, and medium voltage switchgear.

Typical engineering responsibilities include reviewing customer specifications and plans, understanding the project scope, and reviewing the project budget, and schedule. The candidate shall be responsible for timely Engineering deliverables meeting the budget and quality expectations. The candidate shall work collaboratively across different functions such as Project Management, Production, Purchasing, Field Services, and other Company departments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Essential duties and other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


Project Planning and Coordination

  1. Participate lead review meetings during Pre-Sales and Initiation phases to assess project scope, operational constraints, challenges, risks, customer requirements and resource needs.
  2. Participates in the development of project-specific work breakdown structures and cost setup forms.

Engineering Design and Documentation

  1. Interpret and assist customer specifications and plans and translate them into defined engineering scope and deliverables.
  2. Develop detailed engineering documentation including single-line and three-line diagrams, panel elevations, general arrangements, communication diagrams and wiring schematics.
  3. Perform electrical-related calculations.
  4. Prepare and review Electrical Distribution and Controls (EDC) submittal packages, including marked-up specifications, deviation lists, engineering drawings, and bills of material.
  5. Develop Field Instrumentation (FI) submittal packages, including instrumentation data sheets, component selections, and cut sheets.
  6. Prepare and submit Release to Production packages upon customer approval of design submittals.
  7. Draft and compile Seismic Anchorage Calculations reports and submittals, coordinating with structural engineers as needed.
  8. Create Interconnect Diagrams and Loop Diagrams to support installation and commissioning activities.

Quality Assurance and Testing

  1. Prepare and review Factory and Field Test Plans to validate hardware and software deliverables.
  2. Apply redlines from factory and field testing to ensure documentation reflects as-built and as-installed conditions.

Documentation and Closeout

  1. Provide training plans to support customer requirements.
  2. Compile and submit Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals, coordinating with other disciplines to gather required documentation.
  3. Update company database with final project documentation, including redlines and lessons learned.

Project Execution and Support

  1. Complete/support all phases of engineering process to insure accurate and timely completion of customer approvals and manufacturing drawings.
  2. Lead third-party companies to convert engineering concepts into working schematics.
  3. Provide technical support during formal workshops, project meetings, and customer-facing design reviews.
  4. Support field personnel during startup and commissioning activities, resolving design-related issues as needed.
  5. Occasional on-site support and investigation.
  6. Assist with warranty support and address unanticipated scope changes with agility and professionalism.
  7. Coordinate with Automation Engineering, Production, and Field Services to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software systems.
  8. Attend formal training program, review journals and other publications related to the engineering field to help develop new skills or improve existing skills.
  9. Maintain personal billable rate of 80%.
  10. Dedicated to achieving a “Zero Accident Culture” by developing and implementing to site safety protocols and adhering to OSHA safety standards.
  11. Perform other related and associated duties as assigned by the Team Lead and Manager.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in electrical, controls, industrial, or computer engineering, or related field.
  2. Minimum of 1-4 years of experience in design analysis of automation systems
  3. Proficient knowledge of PLC’s and SCADA.
  4. Knowledge of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Process.
  5. Must possess ability and knowledge of understanding process and instrumentation diagrams, Electrical Schematics and Construction Drawings.
  6. Demonstrate ability to manage multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driving environment.
  7. Ability to negotiate, persuade and work collaboratively with customers and staff.
  8. Self-motivated, ability to work autonomously and manager workloads to meet assigned deadlines.
  9. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Ability to work in an active construction site.
  11. Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment standards.
  12. Familiarity with industry standards, regulatory requirements, quality systems, and lean manufacturing.
  13. Strong understanding of NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E/820 and industry standards.
  14. Need to have excellent organizational skills.
  15. Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
  16. Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  17. Knowledge of Bluebeam Revu.
  18. Design-Build experience preferred but not required


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  1. A valid California Driver’s License (if applicable)
  2. Engineering in Training (EIT) Certificate
  3. Professional Engineer (PE) License
  4. ISA Certifications such as ISA CAP and ISA CCST
