Position Description
Employees in this position are responsible for the maintenance of patient billing accounts and performing numerous related functions to accomplish this task; such as, patient registration, insurance follow-up, financial screening of unfunded patients, answering patient billing inquiries, collection of unpaid balances and posting of payments in the Regional Campus Business Office. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards and complies with all federal, state, and institutional guidelines.

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Two years of medical or general office experience OR Completion of related education or training and one year of experience.

Major/Essential Functions
- Negotiate and follow up with patients either face-to-face or over the phone to establish payment arrangements for their accounts and ensure patient understanding of arrangements.
- Receive incoming calls or visits from patients or clinic staff, conduct follow-up, and coordinate with other areas of the business office or clinical departments as needed to answer questions regarding patient accounts.
- Collect Credit card and eCheck payments by telephone.
- Screen patients for basic information regarding eligibility for government, state, or county programs and link to Central Financial Screening as appropriate.
- Collect and enter into Cerner Practice Management (CPM) all necessary demographic insurance information to facilitate the payment from the responsible party or payor and to maintain accurate demographics.
- Research addresses and make necessary corrections on returned mail.
- Maintains records, statements, and other documentation regarding actions with patients' accounts.
Required Qualifications

- Experience in customer service and/or collections in a clinic or a physician's office.
- Experience presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
