Sr. Accountant
We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for a mission-driven non-profit organization in Berkeley, California. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing key close activities, and ensuring the integrity of general ledger transactions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage reconciliations and reporting deadlines effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Lead month-end and year-end accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
- Maintain accurate general ledger records, support audits, and help uphold accounting policies, controls, and reporting standards.
- Oversee cash management, bank reconciliations, cash flow tracking, and treasury-related activities.
- Manage invoicing and revenue recognition for contracts, grants, and service agreements while maintaining billing schedules and contract records.
- Coordinate with operational teams to ensure accurate billing data, contract compliance, and timely collections.
- Administer government grants and contracts, including revenue tracking, reimbursements, fund accounting, cost allocations, and compliance with funding requirements.
- Review expenses for proper coding and allowability under grant and contract guidelines.
- Monitor accounts receivable, resolve billing discrepancies, and report collection performance metrics.
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and workflow efficiencies within accounting and billing functions.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 8+ years of accounting experience, including month-end close, reconciliations, revenue, billing, and grant accounting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, full-cycle accounting, ASC 958, and familiarity with ASC 606.
- Experience with NetSuite, contract billing, revenue recognition, and ERP systems.
- Background in government contracts, grants, reimbursements, and restricted fund management.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze, validate, and reconcile data.
- Strong communication, organization, and multitasking abilities with a high level of accuracy.
Preferred
- Experience with California government funding programs and nonprofit organizations.
- Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and Single Audit requirements.
- Familiarity with technical accounting research, process automation, and revenue accounting concepts.

Compensation
