Tax Manager - Public

Compensation: $140 to $180 Yearly

We are looking for an accomplished Tax Manager to join a public accounting team in North Carolina. This role is responsible for guiding tax compliance, advising on planning strategies, and ensuring accurate reporting across a range of business tax matters. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to lead projects and support staff in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:
• Direct the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and on-time submission.
• Lead tax planning efforts by evaluating opportunities to reduce exposure, improve efficiency, and support broader financial objectives.
• Analyze changes in tax legislation and apply relevant rules and guidance to client or business circumstances.
• Oversee quarterly and annual tax provision work, including detailed review of supporting schedules and documentation.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for auditors, tax agencies, and internal partners regarding filings, inquiries, and examinations.
• Guide and develop entry-level tax team members through coaching, work oversight, and ongoing performance feedback.
• Monitor compliance for income, sales and use, and other applicable taxes while maintaining organized records and supporting documentation.
• Use tax software and Excel-based tools to manage returns, track deliverables, and improve workflow efficiency.
• Assist with tax notices, audit responses, and process enhancements that strengthen the overall tax function.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, corporate tax, or a comparable environment.
• CPA or Enrolled Agent designation is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations and compliance standards.
• Experience with tax software platforms such as CCH ProSystem fx, Thomson Reuters, UltraTax, Lacerte, or similar applications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with financial reporting systems.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple deadlines, communicate effectively, and lead work in a fast-paced setting.

Compensation

$140,000.00-$180,000.00 Yearly
