Senior Accountant

Compensation: $65 to $85 Yearly

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to support the financial health of a mission-focused nonprofit organization in Fresno, California. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate records, strengthening compliance, and delivering meaningful financial insight to leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to balance day-to-day accuracy with broader organizational priorities.

Responsibilities:
• Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports that reflect nonprofit accounting requirements and provide leadership with clear visibility into performance.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by reviewing transactions, preparing entries, and confirming that records are complete and properly documented.
• Partner with department leaders during budget development and help monitor spending patterns against approved plans throughout the year.
• Evaluate financial results, identify notable variances or trends, and recommend practical actions to improve fiscal performance.
• Support audit readiness by organizing schedules, preparing supporting documentation, and coordinating information requests from external auditors.
• Strengthen accounting operations by enforcing internal controls that protect assets, reduce risk, and promote compliance with applicable regulations.
• Track cash activity and help manage liquidity so the organization can meet operational obligations in a timely manner.
• Oversee accounting for restricted and unrestricted funding sources, including preparation of accurate financial information for grant-related reporting.
• Provide guidance to less experienced accounting staff and work across teams to improve financial processes and communication.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit or similarly regulated environment.
• Strong understanding of general ledger activity, journal entries, and month-end close procedures.
• Experience completing account, bank, and balance sheet reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.
• Ability to prepare financial statements and interpret reporting results for operational and leadership audiences.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis, reconciliations, and reporting tasks.
• Knowledge of internal controls, audit support practices, and compliance expectations related to nonprofit accounting.

$65,000.00-$85,000.00 Yearly
