Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations for a Contract position based in San Diego, California. This role will handle core month-end activities, maintain accurate financial records across multiple entities, and assist with payables, invoicing, and cash activity. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, can manage competing priorities, and brings strong general ledger and journal entry experience.

Responsibilities:
• Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and supported.
• Record routine and adjusting journal entries related to payroll, accruals, prepaid expenses, and other general ledger activity.
• Calculate and post depreciation allocations while maintaining organized fixed asset support schedules.
• Process accounts payable transactions through Bill.com, coordinate weekly check runs, and track credit card payments.
• Issue a steady volume of customer invoices each week and follow established procedures for timely billing.
• Monitor and reconcile activity across multiple bank accounts, resolving discrepancies as they arise.
• Support accounting needs for several related entities, with primary ownership over a focused group of companies.
• Assist with general ledger maintenance and contribute to accurate month-end and period-close reporting.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in staff accounting or a similar accounting role with hands-on general ledger responsibility.
• Strong working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and prepaid expense accounting.
• Experience processing accounts payable, invoicing, and cash transactions in an accounting software environment.
• Familiarity with Bill.com and QuickBooks or comparable accounting platforms.
• Ability to manage accounting activity across multiple entities and prioritize work effectively.
• Knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return support is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to navigate multiple financial accounts accurately.

Compensation

$33.25-$38.50 Hourly
