Employee and Labor Relations Specialist - Office of Human Resources (CS27-025)
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30 (37.5 Hours Per Week)
Location: SIUE Edwardsville Campus (Fully Onsite - 5 Days Per Week)
Are you passionate about advising supervisors on employee performance issues and recommending actions such as discipline, performance improvement, or coaching?
If so, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) invites applications for the position of Employee & Labor Relations Specialist Office of Human Resources.
You will provide guidance and interpretation to supervisors regarding employee performance issues and recommend appropriate steps to take.
You will also administer and interpret labor-management agreements on behalf of university management and employees.

What You Will Do
Assist leadership in drafting performance-based and conduct-based action documents, including Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), counseling memos, and disciplinary actions
Assist in conducting pre-disciplinary actions such as required documentation, meeting updates, and follow-up etc.
Support the Assistant Director and Manager of Employee & Labor Relations in grievance hearings and administrative inquiries
Serve as the liaison between business agents, bargaining units, and university management
Assist in training and supervising staff on employee & labor relations topics such as working conditions and safety
Stay informed of federal and state labor laws and regulations, applying them effectively in complex situations
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.
Two years of experience handling employee relations issues such as conducting investigations, issuing discipline, coaching managers on employee performance, etc.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Superior skills in writing/documentation, assessing employee relations situations, and taking a coaching/collaborative approach to recommend appropriate actions
Excellent verbal/communication skills, in particular the ability to analyze and interpret HR policies and translate them clearly at all levels of the university
Demonstrated ability to effectively consult with and influence leadership at all levels, providing clear guidance on employee relations matters, performance management, and appropriate corrective action
