Risk Program Specialist
Description:
Maps Credit Union is looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented Risk Program Specialist who enjoys compliance and risk mitigation, bringing structure to complex processes, and keeping important initiatives moving forward. As a proactive and collaborative self-starter, you'll play an important role in strengthening risk oversight, supporting vendor management, conducting branch audits, and driving operational consistency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Follow all regulatory and policy compliance requirements pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.
- Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and sound judgment in support of the Credit Union’s risk culture.
- Communicate information, ideas, and issues clearly and professionally to a variety of audiences, both verbally and in writing.
- Support positive change by helping advance organizational goals and continuous improvement efforts.
- Promote effective interdepartmental workflow by sharing information, following through on commitments, and collaborating with coworkers across the organization.
- Contribute to consistent, efficient, and well-documented risk-related and operational policies and procedures.
- Maintain current professional and technical knowledge by participating in training, reviewing relevant industry resources, and building professional relationships.
- Coordinate cross-functional vendor management activities and help ensure vendor data is accurate, current, and aligned with management reporting.
- Maintain data integrity and support system integrations within the Credit Union’s primary vendor management platform.
- Support the VP of Risk in monitoring vendor contracts, tracking key dates and renewal terms, and helping ensure vendor performance is managed in accordance with contractual expectations.
- Assist the VP of Risk with coordinating Vendor Oversight Committee meetings, preparing materials, documenting follow-up items, and supporting timely completion of assigned actions.
- Support the annual audit cycle by participating in branch audits and helping coordinate third-party external audit activities.
- Contribute to the Credit Union’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework by supporting ERM update sessions and helping assess whether strategic initiatives align with the institution’s risk appetite and tolerance.
- Assist the VP of Risk in coordinating responses to regulatory compliance questions from Credit Union staff.
- Support the annual examination cycle by assisting with examiner information requests, documentation gathering, and follow-up tracking.
- Build strong partnerships across the organization, serving as a connection point between Operations and Risk and promoting a risk-aware culture that supports thoughtful decision-making and well-justified business opportunities.
- Participate in committees, initiatives, and team projects outside the department as assigned by the VP of Risk or Chief Operations Officer.
- Support Credit Union and CUSO objectives by completing related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Represent the Credit Union through participation in community and business associations in which Maps is a member, as appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret operational documents, policies, and regulations.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize work, manage time effectively, prevent problems when possible, and resolve issues using sound judgment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information professionally in writing, in person, by phone, and through electronic communication channels.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across departments.
- Accurate keyboarding skills and intermediate computer proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and related business applications.
- Ability to remain flexible and adapt effectively to changing priorities, processes, and work environments.
- Ability to work accurately and consistently with close attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with coworkers, members, vendors, regulators, and outside agencies.
- Demonstrated work ethic, including reliability, punctuality, organization, and accuracy.
- Professional appearance, demeanor, and conduct consistent with Credit Union standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of financial industry experience with demonstrated progression in responsibilities.
- Experience in vendor management, regulatory compliance, BSA compliance, risk management, or audit strongly preferred.
- Must be bondable.
Starting Non-Exempt Wage: $31.85 - $35.39 per hour depending on experience.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, business hours. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule after successful completion of a 90-day training period.
