Job Summary
Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.
Essential Functions
An exciting opportunity exists for a Research Technician to join a research lab in the Department of Neurobiology. As a Research Technician, you will participate in investigating the neural mechanisms restricting synaptic development and function in brain regions regulating learning and memory in mice. As well, projects related to both Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia are ongoing in the lab.
The incumbent will use cutting-edge techniques in neurobiology in order to design, execute and analyze experiments. Experience in confocal microscopy and familiarity with Imaris software for dendritic spine analysis is preferred. Rodent animal husbandry skills are a necessity for the upkeep of genetically engineered mice as well as the execution of animal behavior studies including accelerated rotarod analysis and contextual fear conditioning. Further, some animal surgery experience is highly sought after, with skills in cranial window implantation a premium.
- Excellent GPA and outstanding references.
- Proven neuroscience experience including skills in confocal imaging and analysis, animal husbandry, surgical skills and familiarity with learning and memory behavior analysis.
- Strong communication, organization and record keeping skills.
- Must be a highly motivated team player with strong problem solving skills.
