Reporting to the Director of Athletic Communications, the Assistant Director of Gameday Operations and Athletic Communications is a full-time, 10-month position responsible for leading comprehensive event operations and supporting strategic athletic communications for 18 intercollegiate programs. This role is heavily event-driven and requires a consistent and visible presence during nights, weekends, and non-traditional hours to ensure successful execution of all home contests and departmental events.


The successful candidate will serve as the primary on-site event operations manager for home athletic contests, with responsibility for coordinating and executing all aspects of game-day management. This includes oversight of facility setup and breakdown, playing surface preparation, game operations personnel, and adherence to NCAA, conference, and institutional policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Event Operations Leadership: Direct and manage all home athletic contests, including pre-event planning and on-site execution.
  • Game-Day Management: Oversee facility and venue setup, equipment logistics, playing surface readiness, crowd flow, and coordination of officials, visiting teams, and game personnel.
  • Athletic Communications Support: Maintain athletics website content; compile and report in-game statistics; prepare timely game recaps, press releases, and promotional materials; support photography and video coordination.
  • Broadcast & Streaming Oversight: Direct setup and execution of live streaming and video operations for home events.
  • NCAA/Conference Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely submission of all required statistics and reports.
  • Supervision: Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student workers, interns, and game-day staff to support event and communications functions.
  • Special Event Management: Assist in planning and executing major departmental events, including SUNYAC postseason contests, Homecoming, Hall of Fame inductions, Special Olympics activities, and the annual Athletic Awards Ceremony.

The position serves as a primary liaison for visiting teams and game officials, ensuring a professional and welcoming game-day environment from pre-arrival through departure. Additionally, the role requires frequent collaboration with Athletics staff, campus partners, and external stakeholders regarding facility use and event logistics.

Work Schedule Expectations:
Due to the nature of intercollegiate athletics, this position requires extensive evening, weekend, and holiday work, with schedules driven by competition and event calendars. Flexibility and a strong on-site presence during peak competition periods are essential to success.



Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Excellent writing, organization, and computer skills.   
  • Night and weekend hours are expected. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Sport Management, or related field. 
  • Collegiate Athletics Communication or Sports Information experience. 
  • Familiarity with Sidearm. 
  • Competency in statistical programs such as Presto and Genius. 
  • Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations. 
  • Prior experience with game management, web streaming, website management, and social media.
