This position is essential to supporting the scientific dissemination activities of the NIH K Award. The Research Writer will assist faculty investigators with manuscript preparation, scientific editing, literature reviews, journal formatting, and coordination of manuscript submissions. The position will also support the development of abstracts, presentations, reports, and other scholarly products resulting from federally funded research.
Timely dissemination of research findings is a critical component of NIH-funded research and directly supports the University of Pittsburgh's mission to advance scientific discovery, improve patient care, and increase the impact of federally funded research through high-quality publications.
Bachelor's degree required
This position is fully supported through the NIH K Award grant and does not require University hard-money funding. Dedicated manuscript support is expected to improve publication efficiency, increase faculty productivity, and maximize the scientific impact of federally funded research without requiring additional faculty effort.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist faculty investigators with scientific manuscript writing, editing, and revision.
- Conduct literature reviews and summarize current evidence to support manuscripts and grant-related publications.
- Edit manuscripts for scientific clarity, organization, grammar, and journal formatting requirements.
- Coordinate manuscript preparation, co-author feedback, and submission timelines.
- Prepare abstracts, conference presentations, and scientific reports.
- Assist with responses to journal peer reviewers and manuscript revisions.
- Maintain publication tracking and support dissemination of study findings.
- Ensure manuscripts comply with NIH Public Access Policy, journal submission requirements, and University standards.
- Collaborate with investigators and research staff to translate study findings into high-quality scientific publications.
