This person directly supervises the daily operation of the catering including delivery contracts to ensure that daily schedules of activity are established, and quality standards are maintained. They will also assume responsibilities and authority during catering events as needed. This position provides leadership and direction to catering staff, coordinates event setup and service, ensures high standards of customer service, and maintains compliance with university policies and food safety regulations. The Catering Team Lead serves as a key point of contact between Dining Services, event organizers, and catering personnel to ensure successful event execution. This person will work with management and co-workers to instill and foster the value of the Villanova Mission Statement and the Dining Services Mission Statement. Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Lead and supervise catering staff during event preparation, delivery, setup, service, and breakdown.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor staff performance to ensure efficient operations.
  • Coordinate catering logistics for campus events, including room setups, timelines, equipment, and service requirements.
  • Review event orders and ensure accurate preparation and delivery of food, beverages, and supplies.
  • Conduct pre-event briefings and provide direction to team members regarding event expectations and service standards.
  • Ensure proper presentation of food displays, buffet stations, beverage service, and dining areas.
  • Monitor service quality and respond promptly to customer needs or concerns during events.
  • Train and mentor new catering employees and student workers on operational procedures, customer service, and food safety practices.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety regulations.
  • Assist with inventory management, equipment organization, and supply replenishment.
  • Operate university vehicles or catering equipment as required.
  • Complete event documentation, reports, and communication with supervisors regarding operational issues.
  • Support the Catering Manager and Dining Services leadership with special projects and departmental initiatives.
  • Assist with hands-on catering duties as needed during high-volume events.
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
  • High School Diploma/equivalent or 2+ years of food service experience required
  • Valid Driver License required with a good driving record and no traffic violations. Must be able to meet and maintain VU driving privileges as outlined by Villanova’s Risk Management’s Motor Vehicle Record Policy for Driver’s of University Vehicles.

Work Experience
  • • 2 years experience preferred in catering or college and university food service

Work Skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, or team coordination experience.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and university special events.
  • Knowledge of catering operations, banquet service, and event logistics.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team, including student employees.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple events and priorities simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to service excellence.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with catering software, event management systems, and basic computer applications preferred.

Specific Job Knowledge
  • General Knowledge in food service industry including preparation and production and sanitation

Equipment Knowledge
  • General knowledge of kitchen equipment
  • Background in food service industry including preparation and production and safety and sanitation
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Serv Safe Certification preferred
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Tools, machinery and equipment used:
  • Any of the above mentioned equipment as needed.
Environmental conditions:
  • Exposure to extremes in temperature
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals
Physical requirements:
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds, up to 30 pounds with assistance
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time

Salary Posting Information:
This position falls within hourly grade 12 and the range is $21.92-27.36/hr. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
